Deathloop started what might well be a trend of a different new release topping the charts for the coming weeks and months, easily debuting at number one in the UK.

The jam-packed release slate heading into the final few months of 2021 is in full swing and last week's physical chart shows that. Deathloop easily debuted at number one, knocking Wario Ware: Get It Together off the top spot. While most would have expected Deathloop to dominate during its first week, the fact that it is a PS5 exclusive does make its placement at number one pretty impressive. Only ten million people own a PS5 at this point after all.

It was a great week all round for PS5 games in the UK as another batch of consoles arrived across the pond. Spider-Man: Miles Morales sits snugly beneath its fellow PlayStation exclusive at number two, while Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart's sales were boosted so much that it re-entered the chart and shot all the way back up to number four. Ghost of Tsushima: Director's Cut also made it into the top ten.

Switch games are well represented in the top ten, as usual, including last week's number one that has dropped down to number eight. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Animal Crossing: New Horizons's sales both remain strong. The continued strength of Switch game sales will have been bolstered last week by the price drop of the Switch's regular model in the UK.

Speaking of the Switch, there was one other new entry in the top 40 other than Deathloop. Arcade racer Cruis'n Blast which just managed to scrape in at number 37. As touched upon above, Deathloop is going to have a hard time holding on to that top spot for two straight weeks as the release slate continues to ramp up.

Competition for that top spot this week is incredibly strong. Deathloop will be defending its crown against Kena: Bridge Of Spirits, Lost Judgment, and Death Stranding Director's Cut. The week after that will usher in the arrival of FIFA 22, which is almost guaranteed to go directly to number one on its debut weekend in the UK.
