Hellboy creator and Master of Horror Mike Mignola has dropped some haunting sketches of everyone's favorite pocket monsters on Instagram today.

Mike Mignola is the creator, writer, and artist of the long-running comic book series Hellboy at Dark Horse Comics, a horror/superhero series that has been adapted into 3 feature films: Hellboy (2004), Hellboy II: The Golden Army, and Hellboy 2019. His work typically focuses on dark themes like cosmic horror in a pulpy, classic adventure style.

The optimism and general family-friendliness of Pokémon may seem outsider of Mignola's wheelhouse, but that didn't stop the accomplished artist from sharing a few fantastically creepy sketches on his Instagram.

Mignola's Instagram page, simply titled "artofmm" is actually filled with tons of great sketches, many of characters from television. Mignola posts sketches almost daily and often in large groups. So far, Mike has posted 3 Pokémon sketches: Bulbasaur, Slowbro with Weezing, and Scyther with Omastar. There may be more Pokémon sketches to come though, as it seems likely he's actually posting them as he finishes drawing them.

Looking further back in his feed, there are sketches of Spongebob and Patrick, Godzilla, and even Bender from Futurama.

We thought only Pokémon said their own names, but apparently that's a characteristic Mike adds to a lot of his sketches.
