MLB The Show 21 is still bringing in players every day as what many consider to be the best simulation video game in regards to the four major professional sports in the United States. Whether someone is a New York Yankees or Los Angeles Dodgers fan, there's plenty to play, with the most popular mode being Diamond Dynasty.
This is where players can build a fantasy team comprised of modern superstars and historic legends. When looking at the Dodgers, it's interesting to see what the best cards a superfan can have on their own Diamond Dynasty roster are. Here are our picks.
10 Orel Hershiser, SP (91)
Most modern baseball fans know Orel Hershiser as a color analyst for the Dodgers, but boy did he have a solid career as a player. In addition to having 200 wins as a starting pitcher, Hershiser put together an incredible 1988 campaign that saw him bring in all the accolades and accomplishments an MLB pitcher would want.
This 91 overall card in MLB The Show 21 relies on its combination of the sinker and 4-seam fastball pitches, alongside its numerous pitcher-friendly abilities to dismantle any opposing batters at the plate.
9 Eric Gagne, CP (92)
Unless you're a diehard Los Angeles Dodgers fan, most people forget about Eric Gagne, despite his career accomplishments as a member of the Dodgers. In seven seasons he made three All-Star games, won the NL Cy Young award, led the NL in saves in 2003, and was named NL Reliever of the Year two times.
Gagne's Diamond Dynasty card in MLB The Show 21 is a throwback to 2002, the season where he made his first All-Star appearance and finished with a record of 4-1, to go along with his 52 saves.
8 Julio Urias, SP (92)
Julio Urias is one of the best young talents on the current Los Angeles Dodgers and the 24-year-old starting pitcher is building a name for himself among the casual baseball fan crowd. During the 2021 season, he sits at a record of 12-3, well on pace for a 20-win season.
His 92 overall card has some solid abilities, like performing better with runners on base and excelling at limited opposing home run hits. His 4-seam fastball is one of the better ones in MLB The Show 21's Diamond Dynasty, as well.
7 Fernando Valenzuela, SP (93)
Fernando Valenzuela is an MLB pitcher who played for 17 seasons, for six different teams in the '80s and '90s. His best years came as a member of the Los Angeles Dodgers where he made all 6 of his All-Star appearances and won the World Series, an NL Cy Young award, NL Rookie of the Year, and more.
Players of MLB The Show 21 will love that his 93 overall card is stellar for changeup pitchers who love to strategize around batters without having to rely on killer speed from fastball pitches.
6 Josiah Gray, SP (94)
It's unclear how or why Josiah Gray has a 94 overall card in MLB The Show 21, but someone on the Diamond Dynasty team must love his potential. The 23-year-old has only appeared in one game, and in four innings pitched he allowed an astounding nine runs to score, in addition to striking out 7 batters.
It's unclear how the rest of his career will go as a starting pitcher, but for the time being, it might be best to snag this card and experience what Gray's potential can be if he manages to mold himself into an ace starting pitcher in the MLB.
5 Pee Wee Reese, SS (94)
Harold Peter Henry Reese, who more commonly went by "Pee Wee Reese", played for the Brooklyn/Los Angeles Dodgers for almost 20 seasons in total. Not only did the Kentucky born-and-bred shortstop make ten All-Star appearances, but he also helped the club win the World Series in 1955 and 1959.
His 94 overall card sports a vintage look at him during his time in the league and shows younger MLB The Show 21 Diamond Dynasty players what the old Brooklyn Dodgers uniforms looked like.
4 Chris Taylor, CF (97)
Chris Taylor is a current Los Angeles Dodger who made his first All-Star appearance during the 2021 MLB season. He may not be a household name, but he played a part in helping the Dodgers win the 2020 World Series and also was named the NLCS MVP in 2017.
His 97 overall card was released as part of MLB The Show 21's promotion for the 2021 All-Star game and is a symbol of his accomplishments through the first half of the 2021 season. It's a card any modern Dodgers fan should try and get on their Diamond Dynasty team.
3 Jackie Robinson, 2B (99)
It's hard to imagine a list comprised of Los Angeles Dodgers greats not including the great Jackie Robinson. He was of course the first African American to play in the MLB and broke what was labeled as the baseball color line back in 1947 as a member of what was once the Brooklyn Dodgers.
The MLB now celebrates his contributions to the game via "Jackie Robinson Day", and his 99 overall card in Diamond Dynasty is an additional reminder in MLB The Show 21 of his historic significance and greatness.
2 Garrett Cleavinger, RP (99)
Receiving a 99 overall card is a pretty big deal, and Garrett Cleavinger's is mostly about potential as he's only been a professional in the MLB for two years, and has five decisions to his name so far. As a relief pitcher, it's important that he can show up in big moments and throw with velocity.
Cleavinger's 99 overall card has that in spades as his clutch rating is 116 and his 4-seam fastball comes in at 97mph with a control rating behind it of 97 as well. He may not be a known quantity, but this card sure is.
1 Kenley Jansen, CP (99)
Kenley Jansen, a veteran closer for the Los Angeles Dodgers, isn't having the best 2021 season in terms of win/loss record as he currently sits at 1-4. Since entering the MLB in 2010 the Curacaoan baseball product has managed to put together a solid career, with his best stretch coming from 2016-2018.
His 99 overall card in MLB The Show 21's Diamond Dynasty pays homage to the fact that Jansen is part of the 300 saves club as a closing pitcher and currently sits at 333 saves for his career.
