Fans who missed out on the first Nier game will soon have a chance to try it out on modern systems, as a remastered version of Nier Replicant is in development for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.

Square Enix has announced that NieR Replicant is being remastered for modern systems, with a bizarrely named remake called NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139..., because Yoko Taro. This marks the first time that Nier Replicant will receive an international release. A teaser trailer for the game is available now on the Square Enix YouTube channel.

The biggest additions to NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139... are a rearranged soundtrack and voiced dialogue; or at least those are the biggest additions that have been announced so far. It's unlikely that the game would receive a fancy new name if it just had some fancier graphics and new music. Therefore, it's reasonable to believe that there will be some kind of crossover content with Nier: Automata or some new endings.

The original Nier game was called NIER in the West, which featured a young man who was trying to save his daughter from a fatal illness. This game was released in two different forms in Japan: Nier Gestalt and Nier Replicant. The two versions of the game are almost identical, though in Nier Replicant, the protagonist attempts to save his sister's life, not his daughter's. It's currently unclear whether the story from Nier Gestalt or the western NIER, or both games, will be part of the package.

THEGAMER VIDEO OF THE DAY

The original Nier Gestalt/Replicant games were cult classics, but Nier: Automata was the title that put the series on the map. Now that fans over the world are interested in the franchise, it's the right time to return to the original Nier games, make them accessible to gamers around the world, and show them what they missed out on the first time.

NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139... is currently in development for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. No release date has been announced yet.
