Outriders contains over a dozen Expeditions for players to conquer. These Expeditions are the heart of Outriders' endgame, granting a high chance of dropping legendaries and titanium when completed. However, not all Expeditions are created equal.
After the New Horizon update, Boom Town has gone from one of the hardest Expeditions to one of the easiest. This mission contains some fairly weak Insurgent enemies, a simple boss, and not too many combat encounters. If you want to farm legendary gear safely and quickly, Boom Town is the mission for you. Let's go over the enemies and combat encounters you'll be facing.
Updated November 29th, 2021, by Charles Burgar: Timed Expeditions are a thing of the past. The New Horizon update for Outriders has made some major changes to the endgame Expedition grind, allowing way more builds to shine in Expedition content. Boom Town saw one of the biggest changes with the removal of its timer, turning this from one of the most stressful Expeditions to one of the easiest. We've updated this guide to reflect the Expedition's new drop rates and added some loadout recommendations.
Boom Town Enemies
You'll only face Insurgents in this mission, most of which are fodder enemies. A few notable enemies include Marksman snipers, Captains that can inflict Freeze, and a plethora of Ironclad gunners. Stay aggressive or spec for Armor if you want to survive. Enemies clump together in this mission quite a bit, so crowd control or AoE mods and skills are recommended. Pyromancers and Technomaners will have a field day here.
Recommended Skills And Mods
Just about anything will work here. Gravity Leap and Golem are excellent for getting around the map and keeping yourself alive.
Most of your skills work well here. An Ash Blast and Overheat build will have a field day here. If you have the Acari set, Heatwave can easily hit multiple enemies here.
Blighted Rounds and Cold Snap are fantastic here. Enemies are close together in this one. Take advantage of the cover this mission has; it'll make your healing mechanic much easier to manage.
Anything will work here. Twisted Rounds will punch a hole through the boss with no issue. Temporal Blade with a good Anomaly build can also deal some serious damage to the Elites in this Expedition.
Since there are so many enemies, AoE mods like Shadow Comet are absurdly good. Snowsquall is also a good mod if you're playing at a higher CT, allowing you to freeze entire waves of enemies by dealing damage to each target before reloading. Insurgents deal almost exclusively physical damage, so any Armor mods will greatly improve your survivability in this mission.
Get ready to fight when you start this mission. The second the door opens, you'll have to take on dozens of Insurgents and a Cremator. Past that, multiple Cutthroats and Breachers will charge your position. Be careful fighting them in the open, as a few Marksman can be found near the end of the arena.
Focus on the Cremator first, taking out any Cutthroats that charge you. To kill the Marksman snipers, head left to bypass most of the Breachers. Take out the Marksman snipers, then focus on killing the remaining enemies near the center of the arena.
A second wave of enemies will spawn once enough Insurgents are killed. Most of these enemies will be Cutthroats and Breachers, so have a crowd control effect at the ready. Once you've defeated all of them, push to the end of the room to enter the next zone.
Immediately rush to either the left or right side of the arena, based on your build. Close-range builds will prefer the left, and long-range characters will want to go right. There will be a plethora of Insurgents that will charge your location, so prepare to hunker down or go on the offensive.
The only noteworthy enemies here are some Markman snipers on the third floor and a Captain that spawns near the end of the encounter. Most enemies will spawn on the sides of the arena, so any AoE mods or abilities will work wonders here. Stay aggressive, keep healing, and don't stand in the open. Interact with the door at the end of the path to enter the building.
All of the Insurgents are in the middle of a party, so you have a few moments to buff yourself or set up a combo. Most of the enemies are clumped at the center of the arena. A well-placed AoE skill can kill most of them. Once spotted, the enemies will split to each side of the arena. Defeating all of them will spawn the boss.
Dr. Detonator is the final boss, nothing more than a tanky Captain. He will be accompanied by two Captains, both of which can Freeze you and buff other Insurgents. Kill the Captains first; they pose a larger threat than the boss. If you have enough damage, you can kill Dr. Detonator at this point. He has a large health pool but isn't dangerous.
If you can't, loop around the arena to kill all of the fodder enemies. Juggle the trash adds and boss to maintain your health. Kill everyone in the arena to finish the Expedition.
