Rumor has it that Pikmin 3 will be the next Nintendo Switch game to be released this summer. After the surprise announcement of Paper Mario: The Origami King coming this July, speculation is high around what’s next.
Pikmin 3, originally released for Nintendo Switch's predecessor, the Wii U, follows intrepid miniature explorers as they seek salvation for their home planet by harvesting fruit and vegetable juices with the help of strange utilitarian critters. Nintendo has been teasing about its sequel since 2014, but in the meantime released Hey! Pikmin – a side-scroller for the 3DS. Despite the multiple statements from Nintendo that promise Pikmin 4 is nearing completion, sources indicate that the next Switch release is likely a remastered Pikmin 3 Deluxe.
These rumors are coming primarily from VentureBeat’s Jeff Grubb. Grubb claims that plenty of games are on the way, possibly including more from Mario to celebrate the plumber brothers’ 35 years in the business. Developing, announcing, and releasing games has been a struggle for Nintendo amid the pandemic, but they’re doing their best to correct course with announcements like the Direct Mini from March.
It’s most likely that any new Nintendo projects will be kept under wraps, but fingers crossed that VentureBeat is onto something with Pikmin 3 Deluxe.
