Giving your Pokemon items to hold is one of the most important things you can do to boost up your power in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. They can self-heal with berries, randomly go first even if they're slow with the Quick Claw, and even boost up their power immensely with the Choice Band.
The Destiny Knot, however, is rather unique in that it has an effect in battle but it also has an effect outside of battle that makes it essential for competitive breeding. Let's take a look at where to get it and what it does.
Where To Find The Destiny Knot
It will be a while before you can get the Destiny Knot in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. It is located on Route 224, which is only accessible after you have beaten the Elite 4. To get there, you'll need to head east within Victory Road and help Marley find the exit.
Make your way through Route 224 and you should find the Pokeball containing the Destiny Knot on the right-hand side of a patch of grass, near a Dragon Tamer.
What The Destiny Knot Does
The Destiny Knot has two functions when held by a Pokemon. The first is in battles - if a Pokemon holding the Destiny Knot is attacked with a move that makes physical contact, there is a chance that the attacker will become infatuated. This is the same effect as the Attract move.
The second function that the Destiny Knot has is involved with breeding. When held by a Pokemon at the Pokemon Nursery, any egg that is produced by one of the Pokemon there will inherit some of the IVs of its parents.
|IVs or Individual Values denote a Pokemon's stat potential. All Pokemon have an IV for every stat: HP, Attack, Defense, Special Attack, Special Defense, and Speed. This is a number between 0 and 31, with 31 being the highest an IV can be.|
If an egg's parent has the Destiny Knot equipped while breeding, it will inherit five of its IVs from its parents. This is the premier way to breed a perfect Pokemon.
A feat only a true Dovahkiin could pull off.
