Pokemon Yellow was one of the games that started the Pocket Monsters craze: visually unique, multi-elemental creatures that you collect, train, and battle against other worthy opponents. Pokemon has become a worldwide phenomenon, and one of the most memorable traits of the series is its wide array of attacks.

HMs (Hidden Machines) can be acquired and given to Pokemon but they can’t be forgotten, and there are only a very small amount of these moves scattered around the world. However, TMs (Technical Machines) are way more numerous and can really change your Pokemon into something completely unique. Since the beginning, there have been hundreds of moves added to the Nintendo games, but Pokemon Yellow gave trainers access to 50 moves to lay the smackdown on opponents.

Normal-Type TMs

Snorlax and hypno, hyper beam, self destruct

TM 01: Mega Punch

This Normal-type move lands a powerful punch to an opponent that is sure to knock them off their feet. It is located in Mt. Moon or at the Celadon City Department Store.

TM 02: Razor Wind

This Normal-type move takes one turn to whip up a whirlwind and then strikes on the second turn. It is located at Rocket Hideout or at the Celadon City Department Store.

TM 03: Swords Dance

This Normal-type move tests the user's sweet sword skills, which grants the Pokemon an increase in its Attack stat. It is located at Silph Co.

TM 04: Whirlwind

This attack creates a strong gust of wind that has two effects depending on the context. In wild battles, it blows the opponent Pokemon away and the battle ends. In trainer battles, it forces the opponent to switch to another Pokemon. This is located on Route 4.

TM 05: Mega Kick

This Normal-type move launches a devastating kick at the opponent. It is located on Victory Road or the Celadon City Department Store.

TM 07: Horn Drill

This move is very difficult to land, but when it strikes, it is an immediate one-hit knockout. It is located in the Rocket Hideout or the Celadon City Department Store.

TM 08:Body Slam

This Normal-type move has the Pokemon using its entire weight to slam its opponent, and aside from damage, it also has the opportunity to paralyze the opponent. It is located on the SS Anne.

TM 09: Take-Down

This TM has the Pokemon launching its entire self into its attack, for better or worse. The attack can land major damage, but it will inflict 25% of the damage given back onto your Pokemon. It is located in Saffron City or the Celadon City Department Store.

TM 10: Double-Edge

This Normal-type attack has Pokemon putting an immense amount of focused power into a strike, which forces them to take a third of the damage that it inflicts. It is located at the Rocket Hideout.

TM 15: Hyper Beam

This move has the Pokemon focusing all of its energy into one powerful beam, which will require the user who launched it to rest for one turn. Hyper Beam is located in the Celadon City Game Corner.

TM 16: Pay Day

This Normal-type attack has the Pokemon channeling its inner marketing abilities so it can inflict damage on opponents while also earning its trainer more money at the end of a battle. It is located on Route 12.

TM 20: Rage

Along with inflicting damage on an opponent, Rage will also build the attacker’s Attack stat if it is followed up by the opponent hitting a physical attack. The Attack stat can keep being built up if the move keeps being used in succession. It is located on Route 15.

TM 31: Mimic

This Normal-type attack has the Pokemon copy the opponent’s last attack. Mimic also keeps the copied move in the trainer's attack menu for the rest of that battle. It is located in Saffron City.

TM 32: Double Team

This Normal-type attack sees the Pokemon moving so fast in place that it increases its evasiveness. It is located in Fuchsia City and the Celadon City Department Store.

TM 34: Bide

This Normal-type attack requires that a Pokemon focuses for two turns. On the third, it attacks with twice the amount of damage that it received during those two previous turns. Bide is located in Pewter City after defeating Gym Leader Brock.

TM 35: Metronome

This Normal-type move will have the Pokemon be randomly assigned any move in the game to use for one turn. Each turn, the move will be randomly chosen again. It is located in the Pokemon Lab on Cinnabar Island.

TM 36: Self Destruct

This attack has the Pokemon explode, which causes high damage to opponents but will cause the attacker to lose all their HP. It is located in Silph Co.

TM 37: Egg Bomb

Egg Bomb unleashes multiple exploding eggs that attack opponents directly. It is located in Fuchsia City and the Celadon City Department Store.

TM 39: Swift

This Normal-type move has immense accuracy and always lands a hit, with the only exceptions being when opponents are in the invulnerable states of Dig and Fly. It is located at the Lookout Station on Route 12.

TM 40: Skull Bash

Skull Bash has the Pokemon tucking in its head and charging its Defense stat on the first turn, and then unleashing a hard headbutt on the second. It is located in Safari Zone.

TM 41: Soft-Boiled

This Normal-type attack uses healing properties to heal up to half of the Pokemon’s health points. It is located in Celadon City.

TM 47: Explosion

Explosion makes the Pokemon unleash a gigantic explosion, which drastically damages opponents but makes the exploding Pokemon immediately faint. It is located on Victory Road.

TM 49: Tri Attack

This Normal-type move is a triple-pronged attack that potentially brings out many different move types. On top of inflicting damage, it has the chance of inflicting either paralysis, burn damage, or freezing on the target. It is located in the Celadon City Department Store by giving the girl on the roof Lemonade.

TM 50: Substitute

This Normal-type move has the Pokemon sacrifice its own health to create a decoy monster that will absorb hits from opponents. It is located in the Celadon City Game Corner.

Poison-Type TMs

TM06: Toxic

This Poison-type move has the attacker launch a blast of poisonous sludge that causes opponents to be badly poisoned, which will eat away at their HP after each attack. Toxic is located in Fuchsia City after defeating Gym Leader Koga.

Water-Type TMs

TM 11: Bubble Beam

This Water-type attack launches an overwhelming beam of harmful bubbles that inflicts damage and has a small chance of decreasing the target’s Speed stat. This is located in Cerulean City by defeating the gym leader Misty.

TM 12: Water Gun

Water Gun has the Pokemon shooting a sharp ray of water that inflicts swift damage. it is located in Mt. Moon.

Ice-Type TMs

TM 13: Ice Beam

This Ice-type attack has a Pokemon launch a disastrous beam of ice that will both damage the opponent and has a small chance of fully freezing them. It is located at the Celadon City Department Store by giving the girl on the roof Fresh Water.

TM 14: Blizzard

This attack changes the weather to a cold and dangerous blizzard, surrounding opponents and damaging them severely while also having a small change of fully freezing them. It is located in the Pokemon Mansion.

Fighting-Type TMs

TM 17: Submission

This Fighting-type move sees a Pokemon putting its opponent into a strong wrestling submission maneuver, which has the attacker receiving back 25% of the damage that it outputs. It is located on Victory Road or at the Celadon City Department Store.

TM 18: Counter

This attack has the Pokemon focus on its opponent. If their target hits them with a physical attack, they will counter with an attack that deals double damage. It is located at the Celadon City Department Store.

TM 19: Seismic Toss

Seismic Toss is totally dependent on the Pokémon’s level. Depending on the Pokemon’s own level, the attack will inflict the exact same number of damage to their opponent. It is located on Route 25.

Grass-Type TMs

TM 21: Mega Drain

This move sees the Pokemon stealing power from its opponents: however much damage is inflicted, the attacker will get 50% of that damage converted into HP for itself. It is located in Celadon City after defeating Gym Leader Erika.

TM 22: Solarbeam

This Grass-type move has the user gathering light by photosynthesis on the first turn and then launching a powerful light beam on the second. Solarbeam is located in Pokemon Mansion.

Dragon-Type TMs

TM 23: Dragon Rage

This Dragon-type attack deals in absolutes: no matter the type matchup or the level matchup, it will always deal 40 HP to its opponent. It is located in the Celadon City Game Corner.

Electric-Type TMs

TM 24: Thunderbolt

This attack launches a concentrated strike of lightning that deals immense damage, while also having a small change of causing paralysis. Thunderbolt is located in Vermilion City, after defeating Gym Leader Lt. Surge.

TM 25: Thunder

This Electric-type attack changes the weather in a big way and causes a dangerous thunderstorm, which causes damage and has a higher percentage of causing paralysis. It is located at the Power Plant.

TM 45: Thunder Wave

This move uses an immense shock wave to paralyze opponents. Thunder Wave is located on Route 24.

Ground-Type TMs

TM 26: Earthquake

This move attacks all opponents that are on the ground and will cause double damage if the opponent is in the underground phase of Dig. It is located at Silph Co.

TM 27: Fissure

Fissure is a severe ground quake that is a guaranteed one-hit knockout, and it is especially effective if the attacker is at a higher level than its target. It is located in Viridian City after defeating Gym Leader Giovanni.

TM 28: Dig

This Ground-type attack has the Pokemon burrow deep underground in the first move, which keeps them invulnerable to most attacks. The second turn sees the Pokemon burrow out of the ground and attack. It is located in Cerulean City.

Rock-Type TMs

TM 48: Rock Slide

This Rock-type move throws many dangerous rocks at its opponent, which inflicts damage and also has the chance to make them flinch. It is located in the Celadon City Department Store by giving the girl on the roof Soda Pop.

Psychic-Type TMs

TM 29: Psychic

This attack creates an intense wave of psychic energy that has a small chance of confusing an opponent. It is located in Saffron City.

TM 30: Teleport

This move transports the user away from their current location. It is ineffective in trainer battles but will help the user evade wild battles. Outside of battles, Teleport will transport the trainer to the nearest Pokemon center. It is located on Route 9.

TM 33: Reflect

This Psychic-type attack decreases the damage of opponents’ physical attacks by half for five turns. It is located in the Power Plant and the Celadon City Department Store.

TM 42: Dream Eater

This attack is only effective on opponents who have fallen asleep. A terrifying ghost entity enters their dreams and steals them to restore the health of the attacker. It is located in Viridian City.

TM 44: Rest

This move has the Pokemon fall asleep for two turns, but it is completely healed when it falls asleep. It is located on the SS Anne.

TM 46: Psywave

This attack launches a powerful psychic wave that bases its damage solely on the opponent’s number level. It can inflict either half or nearly double of the opponent’s number level as damage. It is located in Saffron City after defeating Gym Leader Sabrina.

Fire-Type TMs

This Fire-type attack launches a gigantic blast of raging fire that has a small chance of causing burn damage. It is located on Cinnabar Island, after defeating Gym Leader Blaine.

Flying-Type TMs

TM 43: Sky Attack

This Flying-type attack will coat the user in light for the first turn and then will launch an attack on the second. Sky Attack might make the opponent flinch and has a heightened chance for critical hits. It is located on Victory Road.
