Resident Evil 2 was only released a few months ago, yet Capcom might already be teasing its successor, as one of the official Twitter accounts for the series pointed out an Easter egg in the game that may hint that Resident Evil 3: Nemesis is already in development.

Resident Evil 3: Nemesis starred Jill Valentine from the original Resident Evil as she tried to escape from Raccoon City when the zombie outbreak started. Jill was pursued throughout the game by a powerful Tyrant-class monster known as Nemesis, who would go on to appear in the Marvel vs. Capcom series.

The @RE_Games Twitter page uploaded an image from Resident Evil 2 on April 16th that showed Claire standing in front of a hole that had been torn through the wall of the Raccoon City Police Station. The text from the tweet states “Clearly something or someone doesn't understand the concept of doors... What do YOU think happened to the wall here?”

The Twitter account also posted a similar image the day before that showed Jill in the Resident Evil Remake with the camera looking up at her from the ground, with the text: Ever feel like somebody’s watching you…?”

The tweets seem to be hinting that a remake of Resident Evil 3: Nemesis is in development, which makes sense considering how successful the remake of Resident Evil 2 was in terms of both critical reception and sales. The first tweet is hinting that Nemesis was present at some point during the events of Resident Evil 2, while the second tweet suggests that there is something in the works involving Jill, who was the protagonist of Resident Evil 3: Nemesis.

The fact that the remake of Resident Evil 2 exists means that the development of a remake of Resident Evil 3: Nemesis should be a lot shorter, as both games reuse several locations (most notably the police station) and would be easy to repurpose for Jill’s adventures in Raccoon City.

Resident Evil 2 is available now for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
