The Sims 4's Spa Day refresh launched alongside a base game update that has added manicures and pedicures to the game. You can access this new feature, that offers a huge amount of nail customization, through both gameplay and create-a-sim.

We take a look at everything you need to know about how to paint your Sim's nails and all the different options now available in the base game.

How To Add Painted Nails To Your Sim In Create A Sim

If you only own base game then you can still add painted nails to your Sims, you just have a more limited choice. There are five types of nails available in the base game:

  • Short fingernails
  • Long round fingernails
  • Short toenails

All three types of nails have a set of swatches where every nail is the same color. Fingernails also have a second set of swatches in which the nails are still plain but are each nail is a different color.

These are only available through create-a-sim.

Those with Spa Day will also find other types of nails. They are:

  • Coffin shaped fingernails
  • Stilletto shaped fingernails
  • Almond shaped fingernails
  • Curated fingernails

These are available both in create-a-sim and through gameplay, as well as the rounded and short variations. The swatches include matte and glossy plain colors, alongside the multi-colored options. The curated nails are a unique patterned selection, designed by Sims 4 CC Creator Ebonix.

You'll find all nails under the accessories tab where there are new categories for manicures and pedicures. They show up for Sims of all ages and genders.

Which Sims Can Have Their Nails Painted?

The good news is that nail painting is available for all. Every Sim from toddlers to elders can have brightly colored nails. Younger Sims have more limited options, namely short nails, but that doesn't matter because they are still adorable. Plus, long nails and toddlers is just asking for trouble!

Children and toddlers are also unable to get their nails painted using a spa chair. You'll need to use create-a-sim to add color to their nails, and it will stay on until you remove it in the same way.

How To Get Manicures And Pedicures Using Gameplay

Any Sims from teen and above can also get their nails done at a spa. All you need to do is have a manicure chair on a spa or gym lot so someone will tend it. Your Sim can then click the chair and choose the style and design of their nails.

A manicure and pedicure will cost Simoleons, and the nails will degrade over time, requiring them to be redone after a few Sim days. Alternatively Sims with enough skill can give family and friends manicures or pedicures without a cost, you'll just need the chair.

Can You Sim Become A Nail Technician?

Yes you can become a nail technician, although this is not an official career. All your Sim will need is a portable spa chair and Wellness Skill level six.

The chair can be placed on any lot and your Sim can click it and "tend chair." This will allow Sims close by to stop for a manicure or pedicure. You'll also be able to offer hand and foot massages, although these can be disabled.

If you want to earn more money from the practice then the Self-Care Specialist aspiration rewards the Self-Care Expertise trait. This enables your Sim to earn more money from all spa services, including manicures and pedicures.

You can promote your services on Simstagram, and if you have Get Famous you can earn fame, which will also increase your business.
