Pokémon Sword & Shield’s first expansion, The Isle of Armor, arrives on June 17.

Not only is Isle of Armor the first expansion for Sword & Shield, but it’s also the first expansion for a Pokémon game, ever. The Pokémon franchise had always previously preferred to launch sequels (or perhaps stand-alone expansions in the case of Black & White 2) in order to continue their stories, but things have finally changed in the current generation.

Nintendo released a statement today that confirms we’ll only have to wait a few more weeks before The Isle of Armor arrives. A subtropical paradise, the Isle of Armor will feature new Galarian forms, new Gigantamax forms, and new Legendary Pokémon for trainers to capture and train at the island’s prestigious dojo.

Confirmed Galarian forms include Galarian Slowbro, a Poison/Psychic-type that somehow turned the Shellder into a poison-shooting weapon. New Gigantamax forms for Venusair and Blastoise have also been confirmed, both equipped with a huge flower and water canons, respectively. And Urshifu can be found somewhere on the Isle of Armor as the latest Legendary Pokémon to arrive in the series.

Sword & Shield's second expansion, The Crown Tundra, is set to arrive later this fall and will bring with it new Galarian forms of first-gen classics Zapdos, Moltres, and Articuno. Better start saving your Ultra Balls, because they're sure to be tough to catch!
