Valheim has surpassed one million sales less than a week after entering Early Access on Steam, according to the latest update from Iron Gate Studio. The game is currently the top-selling title on the entire platform and has more than 120,000 active players.

To say Valheim has been a success would be an understatement. Few games are able to rival the likes of GTA V, Team Fortress 2, and Apex Legends on Steam – yet Valheim's active player count is giving them a run for their money. The developer has big plans for 2021, and it hopes this is just the beginning of a fantastic year.

"Valheim has already surpassed one million sales in our first week on Steam Early Access. For measure, that is equivalent to roughly 8,333 Viking-crammed longboats heading to their next conquest," reads the announcement on Steam. " We are super excited to continue working together throughout 2021, as we bring you tons of cool new content, improvements and … ways to die, through the early access and beyond."

As is often the case with today's best-selling games, Valheim has found a passionate following on Twitch. In fact, it currently has more viewers than Dota 2 and World of Warcraft – not bad for an Early Access indie game. Rust experienced a similar boost from Twitch earlier this year, when it broke its previous viewership and concurrent player count records multiple times in the same month.

Valheim is a "brutal exploration and survival game for 1-10 players, set in a procedurally-generated purgatory inspired by Viking culture." It's been quickly adopted by players seeking the next big survival game, and its massive 2021 roadmap promises to deliver on that lofty goal. From a new biome and Sandbox Mode to combat improvements and unique new locales, Valheim players have a lot to look forward to this year.

Valheim is currently available in Early Access on Steam for $19.99. As of now, there are no plans to bring the popular title to PS5, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, or Nintendo Switch.
