Get your DMR in Halo loaded, because Xbox Live Multiplayer will be free for everyone this weekend. It will last from August 6 until Monday August 10.
According to Video Games Chronicle, stellar games like Monster Hunter World, ARK: Survival Evolved, and Gears 5 will be free to try for those without Game Pass. Happy days! Will Xbox suck you into paying for an Xbox Game Pass subscription?
Rumors about Microsoft dropping Xbox Live in favor of supporting Xbox Game Pass and xCloud went flying over the past few weeks, but that is not the case. "We have no plans to discontinue Xbox Live Gold at this time," an Xbox representative told The Verge, "It is an important part of gaming on Xbox today, and will continue to be in the future." PC gamers, however, have the benefit of not having to pay for Xbox Live; it's completely free for them to jump into a warthog and lay waste on the battlefield.
It was recently announced that Halo Infinite's multiplayer will be free-to-play, which sets a strong precedent for the future of the series. However, will Xbox Live be mandatory for those with an Xbox Series X or Xbox One to play the game? We'll just have to wait and see.
Xbox is slowly been turning into a services company with a streaming service for mobile devices in September, and the overwhelmingly attractive Xbox Game Pass model. Final Fantasy VII HD, Man of Medan, and Darksiders Genesis will all be available on the Game Pass service this month, and every first-party release from Xbox Game Studios will be ready to play for subscribers from day one. Being able to check out games like Halo Infinite and Fable, as well as many other third party titles for $9.99 a month is a crazy deal.
Microsoft's upcoming console Xbox Series X will be carrying on with Xbox Live and will be releasing sometime this holiday. Halo Infnite will also release in the same time frame. No price, launch titles, or firm release date has been given as of yet. We're only a few months away, so the anticipation is killing us.
